Reliability & Security

Your MxAlert website is hosted on our web server that is located in a Rackspace.com data center in Dallas, TX. Our web server is not "co-located", but is rather maintained for us under a "managed hosting" arrangement. Rackspace is the fastest growing managed hosting provider in the country and has been profitable since 2001.

Our Server

Our web server runs the latest version of Red Hat Linux ES, Apache, and MySQL - arguably one of the most reliable web server combinations available. In addition, our web server is equipped with a RAID controller and mirrored SCSI hard drives. Should one of the drives fail, the remaining drive continues to serve up content and store any changes to your data. Our agreement with Rackspace.com guarantees a 2 hour replacement time, 24/7, should a hard drive fail.

Data is backed up daily and sent offsite to a failover server located in a different data center in a different city. This guarantess access to your data even in the event of a disaster.

Rackspace Zero-Downtime Network™

  • Rackspace does not use their network for any purposes other than managed hosting - no telecom services or cable TV service take priority over customers needs.
  • Partners with nine network providers to provide multiple redundancies in information flow to and from data centers and end users.
  • Fiber carriers enter data centers at disparate access points protecting network from complete service failure in the unlikely event of a network cut.
  • A highly redundant network configuration co-developed with Cisco to protect against single points of failure at the shared network level (with an option to extend into customer's VLAN environment).

Security

  • Strictly monitored access to all data centers using keycard protocols, biometric scanning protocols and continuous interior and exterior surveillance.
  • Access limited to data center personnel only without exception.
  • All data center employees undergo thorough background security checks before being employed.

Precision Environment

  • All data centers' HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems are N+1 redundant, ensuring that a duplicate system can immediately come online in the event of an HVAC system failure.
  • All air is circulated and filtered every 90 seconds to remove dust and contaminates.
  • An advanced fire suppression system designed to stop fires from spreading in the unlikely event one should occur.
  • All cables are securely tied down with cable racks suspended from ceilings providing dual routes for all cables.

Conditioned Power

  • In the unlikely event of a total utility power outage, all data centers' power systems are designed to run uninterrupted with all servers being fed conditioned UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) power.
  • The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant, with instantaneous failover if primary UPS fails.
  • For extended utility power outages, routinely tested, on-site diesel generators can run indefinitely.

Core Routing Equipment

  • All data centers use only fully redundant, enterprise-class routing equipment.
  • All routing equipment is housed in a secured core routing room fed by its own redundant power supply.
  • Fiber carriers enter facilities as disparate access points to guard against service failure.
